Hi, I’m Dr. Marissa Fruchter
I’m a Brooklyn psychologist working with individuals and couples to help them better understand themselves, their feelings, and their relationships.
About Me
I specialize in addressing the following topics, among others:
Depression
Anxiety
Relationships (including romantic, familial, and platonic)
Childhood Trauma
Sexual Trauma
Identity (including gender and sexuality)
Life Transitions
Self Esteem
I prioritize building trusting and collaborative therapeutic relationships. By creating a warm and nonjudgmental environment, I’ll help you feel safe and comfortable to be yourself, express the full range of your thoughts and feelings, and explore new ways of being.
I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. You’re the expert on yourself, and my role is to help you identify what has made you you and what patterns might be holding you back. Sometimes that means processing past experiences together. Sometimes that means building new skills in the present.

Services
Individual Therapy
I approach therapy through a broadly psychodynamic lens, which means that I will help you understand your emotions and behavioral patterns by processing experiences, relationships, and reactions throughout multiple periods of your life, past and present.
In developing this self-awareness, we create more space to move through your life with intentionality instead of feeling like you’re on autopilot. You’ll also develop new insights that may help you challenge your beliefs about yourself, others, or the world around you in useful ways.
Couples Therapy
Does it sometimes feel like you and your partner are speaking completely different languages? Are you struggling with taking next relationship steps or making life decisions together? Does it feel impossible to stop having the same fights over and over?
I help couples work through issues like these, among countless others. I utilize techniques from Emotionally Focused Therapy and the Gottman Method to help couples learn skills to understand each other more fully and connect on deeper levels. I happily work with couples with any orientation and/or relationship structure.
Group Therapy
I run expressive arts groups to help people find creative ways to reflect on and work through their feelings while connecting with others who understand them. Whether you’re an experienced artist or have never picked up a paint brush in your life, this group is for you.
I don’t have any current groups running, but please let me know if you’re interested and would like to be added to the wait list for the next group!
The Office
My office is located in Dumbo, Brooklyn. There are several nearby train lines to provide easy access from many Brooklyn and Manhattan neighborhoods. I also offer virtual sessions for anyone who can’t or would prefer not to come in person.
FAQ
-
Starting therapy can be scary, but I try to make the process as comfortable as possible. During our initial phone consultation, I’ll ask you a few questions about what you’re looking for and tell you more about me and my approach. Together we’ll decide if it seems like a good fit. If it is, we’ll schedule our first full session.
-
My regular fee is $275 for a 45-minute session. I offer a limited number of sliding scale spots on a case-by-case basis.
-
No, I am an out-of-network provider. Most people I work with submit claims to their insurance companies and receive reimbursements for 50-80% of the session fees. I’ll provide you with all the information you need for these claims.
-
This varies greatly from person to person, and we’ll figure out together what makes most sense for you. Some people come to therapy for a specific issue and may choose to step back once that issue is resolved. Others find benefit from maintaining therapy as part of their long-term routine as a space to process multiple aspects of their lives and emotions.
Please keep in mind that it will likely take at least a few months of consistent therapy before you’re able to notice significant change.
